The Analemma Sundial

 

     The Blandair Foundation has received permission from the University of Cincinnati to replicate a uniquely-designed sundial and from the Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks to install it on a granite base at Blandair in memory of Elizabeth C. Smith.  Using an improved scale, a visitor will be able to set the instrument manually and read “Blandair Solar Time” directly to the minute, estimating the fraction of a minute – quite a feat!  It will be only the fourth sundial of this design in existence.  We shall propose the sundial to serve as the centerpiece for a contemplative garden in Blandair Regional Park.

     Having raised the funds to commission the sundial, the foundation would like to raise $25,000 for the garden and $4,000 for a maintenance endowment.  Contributions for the garden will be held separately from those for general operations.  If you would like to contribute to this project, please send a check payable to the Blandair Foundation and designate that the contribution is for the “Garden” to:
